The wife and I are celebrating our fifth in a couple of weeks. I'm curious what sort of special stuff you other opponauts might've devised to celebrate your nuptials.

She's adamant we don't do anything nuts. She's frugal like that. Since we have two little kids, we ren't planning an overnight anything.

She does like jewelry, and since the fifth is traditionally celebrated with wood and silverware, I found some sweet cocobolo and sterling silver earrings that are exactly her style, and a vintage Mexican redwood and silver bracelet. They were relatively inexpensive and I know they're in her fashion wheelhouse.

I'm also planning a 5-stop evening of nothing but fun stuff that we never seem to get to do these days. Lunch at the location of our first official date, a winebar for a drink, a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse, sushi at the restaurant where I proposed, and a nightcap at a cocktail bar/tapas restaurant near the house.

Is that enough? Like I said, she doesn't want to spend money on extravagant gifts, so I think a couple of small gifts with a FULL afternoon and evening together should cover it?

And just because, my groom's cake was the karussell.

So uh, what race car did you get with that awesome racecar cake.

Everything you wrote looks like a good idea. But I'm a certified non-expert on anything relationship wise.

I'd say you're doing fine. Sounds like she'll be happy as long as you do something that shows you put some thought and effort into it, which you clearly have.

Time spent doing things you don't get to do anymore is priceless. You can't put a number on that. Just go have a good time! Couple small but thoughtful gifts is the way to roll there.

Oh and congrats! I never made it to my 5th either time I was in a LTR!

Last year for my wife my sons and I went through all the old pictures we had lying around and got some inexpensive frames from the dollar store and made a bunch of framed photos from over the years. She came home from work and there were photos from the past 15 years everywhere. Immediate tears.

My anniversary is in July so we usually take a long weekend in Seattle as it matches up with their SeaFair celebrations. Seattle in summer is a glorious place. Also, my wife gets employee discounts at all Hilton properties so we can stay downtown for $39 a night which helps.

For our one year anniversary (this year) we went to Vail. Walked the town, had a very nice dinner and a couple of overpriced (albeit tasty) cocktails, then spent the night in a nice hotel overlooking the main street. Vail is surprisingly affordable in the mid summer :)

Before I even read your post, I thought jewelry. You're definitely doing it right. To go along with the jewelry, maybe some of her favorite candy. Happy Anniversary!

Hey, $kay...got any Christmas gift ideas for an old guy married 14 years? I suck at that stuff. (Parents didn't celebrate ANYTHING when I was a kid)

For the 14th anniversary (I just looked it up), the traditional gift used to be ivory, but they changed it to animals. Whatever that means. The modern gift is gold jewelry which is easy enough. I don't know any woman who doesn't like jewelry. Does she collect anything? Also, perfume or cologne is nice, if you know what fragrance she likes.

I'm fresh out of elephants to slaughter....so, now what? I think maybe some ear rings. She likes those. Her hobby is mostly running and dragging me and the munchkins on hikes.

Gold earrings would be great! Also, flowers and/or candy to go with.

That's the 1954, Toho-Studios-approved, Gojira. Real vinyl, 12 inches high, available on Amazon. You'll have to use a hair dryer to get the tail on ....

The second one (1955, Godzilla Raids Again) is pretty good, the third one (1956, Godzilla, King of the Monsters!) features Raymond Burr (!) explaining to white people why this monster is a problem. Lots of footage from the first one - it's sort of silly.

That's the one I have. I consider it the first one because it really is the one that popularized him in the US. And also...George Takei's first VO work.
